Human beings undertake and do various tasks all the time. Many of these are everyday tasks & activities All these require some sort of motivation to pull together the necessary energy and execute them. While this motivation is an essential part of performing the activities, it both increases and diminishes due to various factors. Thus, both of these factors become important for the tasks. Among the two, you need to learn the things that are killing motivation.

What Are the Things that Are Killing Your Motivation?

Different behaviors and external influences affect our motivation levels. Some of these increase the motivation level and other lessens it which include:

I. Bad emotions

Human beings are emotional creatures as they heavily rely on different emotions to have motivation. Among the emotions, the good ones give you motivation while the bad ones kill your motivation.. These can be sadness, confusion, disbelief, disgust, and even anger. (However, anger can be a source of motivation).

II. Criticism 

This is one of the trickiest of them as it can work both ways depending on the involved, i.e., it both motivates and demotivates. However, for most criticism it leads to killing your motivation. It makes them realize that they are not capable enough to carry out the task and as a result they lose hope.

III. Hunger & thirst

We need food and liquids to survive and energy to perform activities. You need energy and if you do not have the needed energy, you will not be able to perform any activity. This is the fact that demotivates individuals with hunger & thirst, or either one of them, to a great extent even when they have the necessary energy. 

IV. Failure

For every action and activity, there is possibility for both success and failure. Both of these affect you for the intended routine and particular tasks. They motivate and demotivate respectively which put failure in the category of the everyday things that are killing your motivation. Its effects vary with the degree of failure the individual concerned; and build over time due to repetition.

V. Distractions

The most attractive killer of your motivation is distraction. This is actually shifting your attention and thus motivation to some activity to some other activity. However, it leads to the inability of the individual to perform the tasks as the energy and attention is wasted to almost complete waste.

VII. Boredom

While it is essentially having nothing to do, boredom is actually a feeling. This is a feeling that you are not doing anything worthwhile which can be even when you are doing nothing. It slowly leads to thinking and believing that you need not to do anything, i.e., makes you lazy. This leads you to lose motivation all of a sudden at some point despite having it in substantial quantity.

VIII. Weak planing

Not every activity needs planning as you rely on muscle memory for many activities and can go with the flow for many others. However, when you need planning and you have weak planning, there is a likely chance that the activity can scare you to the point of abandoning it. This abandonment often results from loss of motivation.

IX. Comparison 

Whatever activity you perform it will most likely have some alternative or comparison. In addition to that, you might have to bear a comparison to you. All of these can be highly demoralizing for your energy level leading to loss of motivation for the related tasks.

X. Slow results 

Your everyday tasks need results for your efforts. Since the tasks are everyday tasks, these results need to be frequent and an essential part of your everyday life. Once achieved, these results become an essential source of your daily need for motivation. Thus, if these results are not achieved, they become a reason for killing your motivation.

XI. Uncertainty 

Like slow results, uncertainty is a very damaging factor related to these tasks. This includes uncertainty before, during, and after the task/activity. It can break motivation at any time affecting the energy you are spending in the task/activity along with the way and even after spending the whole thing.
